Programme Requirements

Diploma candidates complete six IB subjects, meet IB assessment requirements, and complete the three components of the Diploma Programme core.

The Diploma Programme at a Glance

Six Subjects Coursework across the IB subject groups.
HL + SL Students take three or four Higher Level courses, with remaining subjects at Standard Level.
DP Core Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service.
Assessment Students must meet IB's assessment and minimum passing requirements to earn the diploma.

  • IB History of the Americas HL — Year 1
  • IB History of the Americas HL — Year 2
  • IB Philosophy SL
  • IB Environmental Systems and Societies SL

Group 4: Sciences

  • IB Biology HL — Year 1 / AP Biology
  • IB Biology HL — Year 2
  • IB Environmental Systems and Societies SL
  • IB Sports, Exercise and Health Science

Group 5: Mathematics

  • IB Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches SL

Additional Subject / Elective

Canyon students may use an approved additional IB subject offered by the school to complete their six-subject programme. Students should confirm current options with the IB Program Advisor and their counselor.

The Diploma Programme Core

Theory of Knowledge (TOK)

Students examine how knowledge is constructed, justified and evaluated across different areas of inquiry.

Extended Essay (EE)

An independent research project culminating in an academic paper of up to 4,000 words.

Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS)

Students participate in experiences involving creativity, physical activity and service while reflecting on their learning and growth.

Important: Course offerings and individual student pathways may change from year to year. Students should work with their counselor and the IB Program Advisor to build an appropriate two-year Diploma Programme schedule.
