Programme Requirements

To earn the International Baccalaureate Diploma candidates are required to take six IB courses selected from six subject groups over two years AND must meet the minimum score requirements 

  • Complete 3 higher level (HL) and 3 standard level (SL) courses 

  • Complete the Theory of Knowledge class

  • Complete the Extended Essay (EE)

  • Complete the Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) component

Group 1: Studies in Language and Literature
  • IB English Language and Literature HL (year 1)             

  • IB English Language and Literature HL (year 2)             

Group 2: Language Acquisition
  • IB French SL                                             

  • IB Spanish SL

Group 3: Individuals and Societies
  • IB History of the Americas HL (year 1 - APUSH)

  • IB History of the Americas HL (year 2)

  • IB Environmental Systems SL      

  • IB Psychology SL

Group 4: Experimental Sciences
  • IB Biology HL (year 1 - AP Biology)

  • IB Biology HL (year 2)

  • IB Environmental Systems SL

  • IB Physics (Physics Honors)

Group 5: Mathematics

IB Mathematics: Analysis and approaches SL (Pre-calc/trig Honors)

Group 6: The Arts

Presently, Canyon does not offer any group 6 courses. As an alternative, students must select an IB elective from group 3 or 4:

Physics (SL)

Environmental Systems & Societies (SL)

Psychology (SL)
